What is the History of Mortgage Monkey?
I started in the mortgage business in 1997 and began as a Loan Officer in 1998. In a wonderful twist of fate I had my first date with my Husband Mike on the day I began my career in the mortgage world. So, he has been here through everything!
Having worked in a Corporate office of a mortgage company I was fortunate to learn the business from the ground up. One of the things I observed was that many people were intimidated and overwhelmed by home financing and many of those people never took a chance on becoming a homeowner. That was particularly true in the Gay & Lesbian community. I began my career focusing on the LGBTQ+ community…but like I often say, I don’t discriminate…I’m happy to work with straight people too!
To help remove the fear and intimidation we came up with the idea of creating a character and Mortgage Monkey was born. Despite this ruffling feathers in the industry in the early part of my career, over the years I have become known as the Mortgage Monkey and I am very proud of that!
